6. Tamil Nadu Adi Dravidar Housing and Development Corporation Ltd. (T.A.H.D.C.O.)- Village programme:

T.A.H.D.C.O. has selected Integrated Women Development Institute to co-ordinate the T.A.H.D.C.O. village programme in Gummudipundi and Minjur blocks. Two villages one each in Gummudipundi and Minjur Blocks and 6 villages that come under khadi shed scheme were identified for this purpose. Two candidates one male and one female were identified and were given training on leadership qualities. Village plans were prepared and handed over to the District Managers. 15 village Co-ordinators attended the training held between March 10th-14th, 2000 To eradicate the manual scavenging in the whole of Tiruvallur dist., TAHDCO has selected Integrated Women Development Institute to implement "Sanitary mart"scheme to rehabilitate the scavengers. We have formed nearly 90 groups of scavengers under this programme.

7. Ecumenical Church Loan Fund of India (ECLOF)

Integrated Women Development Institute with the support from ECLOF loan has helped 20 Dalit women from Kamatchipuram, Andithoppu, and Peruvoyal villages to start self employment programmes like rearing milch animals, goat, Duck and starting of petty business. The women have started to show interest in the programme. All the beneficiaries have paid the first instalment without any default. Integrated Women Development Institute has made arrangements with the local Veterinary Hospital to visit the villages to give veterinary service. Since this programme was started only three months back, the result could be seen only after a year. Integrated Women Development Institute

8. Documentation:

Building an update documentation based on the general catalogue with special emphasis on Dalit, women, Hygiene, Environment, Health, Sanitation, local self government, and Human Rights are very essential for the effective implementation of our programmes which will serve our purpose of being a resource centre for the people with whom we associate. Inward and outward registers are maintained. The utilization of documentation materials are recorded and maintained. Indexing according to 60 topic wise classification are made, 5 weeklies, 5 fortnightly, 10 monthly magazines and 3 dailies are purchased during the reporting period.

9. Legal Aid:

People started to realise their rights as a consequence of their becoming aware of their rights. But most of the poor and disadvantaged section do not have the resources to have access to legal system which warrents the process of legal aid and advice. This work involves giving legal advice council and assistance of a Lawyer whenever necessary. The pre and post litigation in most of the cases involving the poor, the delivery of justice under the legal system is not only expensive and time consuming but also provide relief that is inappropriate. Hence mediation as a method of alternative dispute resolving was proposed. In mediation it has been attempted to settle the dispute without going the court by a process of mediation in which both parties go satisfied.

10. Cultural programme:

Effective mode of communication among the village people is the indigenous method of cultural programmes, such as street theatre, awareness songs, role plays and dances. During the reporting period 15 cultural programmes were performed on themes of women's rights, Health, Hygiene, sanitation and micro credit.

11. Cultural Action:

Unlike the cultural programme the cultural action focusses only on the issues of the people. The local issues are identified and presented on the spot in the form of street plays along with the legal rights and knowledge on the forums to be approached for remedy. There were 10 cultural action programmes during the reporting period in which violence against women, untouchability, water problems, Hygiene, Environmental problems were highlighted.

12.INCOME GENERATING SCHEME :












Under this income generating program forty women belonging to 5 villages in the Gummudipoondi block of Thiruvalluvar district were given 2 goats each. By the end of the year the goats yeilded lambs,and by selling them the women were able to clear off their debts that they borrowed from the money lenders, now they are able to send their children to the schools .The women are now able to save for their future and even deposit some amount on their female chidren.

13.HEALTH AND HYGEINE :

Thanks to the awareness education given to the women now they are able to keep their places neat and clean. They are able to send their children to the schools neatly



14.AWARENESS EDUCATION :

The women group members were reminded on their responsibilities,how to tackle a situation and the family atmosphere they should create for making the children happy at home. The women were also taught about the need for grass root level organisations, family budgeting and the need for thrift and savings. About 350 women from various self help groups were benefitted under this program. In order to make this more attentive charts and posters were used for easy grasping by the rurals.

15.KITCHEN GARDENING :

We motivated women in the groups about the good aspects of kitchen garden and made them start it families. About 20 programs were conducted and 650 women were benefitted from it. They were also educated on the importance of tree plantation on which 120 families contributed by purchasing veg seeds and fruit saplings and formed their own gardens.

THE GENERAL IMPACT :

The women were able repay their loans by selling their lambs. Their economic condition has also increased and so far about 20 women are completely liberated from the clutches of money lenders. The kitchen garden and the trees planted by the women gave a new look to the villages and the environment looks neat and clean. The women were emphasised on the need for cooperating with each other for improving the basic facilities in the villages
